130,000 pounds of ground beef suspected to contain plastic recalled by US authorities
US federal authorities have recalled 130,000 pounds of ground beef suspected to contain plastic and was delivered to Colorado and other states, The Denver Post reported on November 8.
Consumers were also instructed by the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS) to dispose or return affected meat.
The products being recalled are labled "Natures Rancher 100 percent Grass Fed Ground Beef 85% Lean, 15% Fat," and "Nature's Rancher 100% Grass Fed Organic Ground Beef 93 percent Lean, 7 percent Fat."
Packages of both 85% and 93% lean have the same "use or freeze by dates." Those dates are 10/24/19, 10/31/19, 11/04/19, 11/07/19, and 11/11/19.
The FSIS announced the recall of the New Jersey-based Rastelli Brothers beef products on November 7.
The problem was discovered after FSIS received consumer complaints through the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline. The firm also notified FSIS that they received a consumer complaint directly.
The raw ground beef items were produced from October 3 through October 15.
