EU broiler producers benefit from Danisco's new technology
Press release
Broiler producers in the EU can now benefit from Danisco Animal Nutrition's novel phytase feed enzyme Phyzyme XP following the EU Commission's decision to grant permanent authorisation for the use of Phyzyme XP 5000 L in broiler feeds.
Phyzyme XP is a new generation phytase feed enzyme which is highly efficient at improving the digestibility of phosphorus and other nutrients contained in cereal grains, oil seed meals and their by-products. The product enables broiler producers to reduce feed costs by minimising the need to add expensive inorganic phosphorus sources to the feed. An increasingly important additional benefit is Phyzyme XP's ability to reduce phosphorus excretion by more than 30 percent, resulting in significant environmental benefits at a time when legislation on pollution control is of increasing concern.
Trials have shown that Phyzyme XP offers more value compared with leading competitor phytases. Research centres and universities across the world have demonstrated that, when added to broiler feeds, the new-generation product produces efficacy improvements of at least 20 percent over "traditional" fungal phytases.
Dr Andrew Harker, Danisco Animal Nutrition's director of marketing and technical services, commented, "We are delighted to have received approval from the EU Commission allowing us to offer Phyzyme XP for use in EU broiler feeds. This represents good news for broiler producers across the EU. The superior properties of this phytase mean that broiler producers can both further reduce the amount of inorganic phosphorus and safely reduce dietary energy and amino acids in the feed formulation, increasing net savings by at least an additional 20 percent, compared with other available phytases."
Phyzyme XP's launch in the EU is complemented by Danisco Animal Nutrition's recently developed Phycheck service, a new innovation which offers broiler feed producers the opportunity to fully exploit potential feed cost savings from using Phyzyme XP, without risk of compromising bird performance.
The service employs a unique software model based on extensive broiler trials, which calculates specific matrix values for phosphorus, calcium, amino acids and energy by taking into account, for the first time, phytase dose rate, dietary phytate level and bird age.
Dr Harker added, "Producers are increasingly being forced to focus on further reducing the environmental impact of their businesses. This will require a positive approach and Danisco is offering the latest technology to help. The benefits of feed enzymes in terms of their ability to improve feed utilisation, lower production costs and reduce the environmental impact of animal production are already well proven. This product, together with its related service, is a further, significant, step forward."
Danisco Animal Nutrition is the feed ingredients business of Danisco A/S, Denmark, a world-leading supplier of food ingredients. Danisco Animal Nutrition pioneered the development and use of enzymes and betaine in animal nutrition. Its products are now widely used by poultry and pig producers throughout the world. The company's mission is to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions that increase efficiency and safety of the food production chain in an environmentally responsible way.
