Novus and Verenium introduce new phytase enzyme product for livestock health

Livestock nutrition company, Novus International, Inc. and enzyme production firm, Verenium Corporation, has announced CIBENZA® PHYTAVERSETM, a new phytase enzyme which is used in the diets of monogastric livestock to improve growth and health.

At low substrate concentrations, the product can boost performance by increasing phytate hydrolysis, a breakdown process which releases available nutrients within the animal. During the process, CIBENZA® PHYTAVERSETM ensures better stability throughout the upper gastrointestinal tract.

With its intrinsic qualities of high heat tolerance and pellet functionality, the absorption of the enzyme occurs more effectively due to the elimination of the thermo protective coatings over the product.

"These important characteristics allow the animal to efficiently utilise phosphorus and other nutrients necessary for improved animal health and nutrition, and can provide producers an increased return on investment," said David Weiner, Vice President of R&D Strategy and Partnerships at Verenium.

Animal trial tests have also yielded positive results, based on standard metrics such as weight gain, feed conversion ratios and phosphorus mineralisation.

Novus and Verenium are planning to launch CIBENZA® PHYTAVERSETM in certain regions this year.
