South Central FS unveils new feed mill in Illinois, US
South Central FS, a part of the FS System agricultural cooperative in the US, has unveiled a new feed mill near Watson, southeast Illinois.
The multispecies facility features a 4-tonne mixer which could mix 60 tonnes of feed hourly, two roller mills for processing corn, a function for pelleting feed and a 100,000-bushel grain bin.
According to Phil Westendorf, feed marketing manager of FS Total Livestock Service, the feed mill is a "response to an ever-changing livestock marketplace." He noted that South Central FS' current facility has aged and the cooperative needs to do "something different."
Developed to meet Food Safety Modernization regulations, the new mill will continue to serve independent livestock producers and allow more ingredient options to benefit farmer-customers.
The facility will receive its corn supply from Total Grain Marketing, a sister company.
