Fire at poultry farm in Penang, Malaysia, kills about 9,000 chickens

About 9,000 chickens were killed in a fire that broke out on December 29 at a poultry farm in Juru, Simpang Ampat, Penang, Malaysia.
"The fire involved a chicken coop, with an estimated 50% damage to the internal structure, including the poultry rearing area," said Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis. "As a result, about 9,000 chickens were found dead."
The fire, which had since been put down, "did not spread to external structures and was confined to the internal areas of the coop," he added.
The affected site was CAB Cakaran Breeding Farm Sdn Bhd along Jalan Juru Estate.
