Greek fish farming prices rebound after steep decline in 2023

The prices of fish from Greek aquafarming experienced a sharp decline last year, according to data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
This drop was primarily attributed to decisions by leading Greek companies, rather than Turkish competitors, to lower prices in international markets.
In 2024, prices have been set at higher levels, offering some relief to the local market leader, Avramar. While the company's future remains uncertain, the price adjustments have mitigated the worst potential outcomes for its operations.
ELSTAT data also revealed a reduction in the number of fish farming facilities. This decline is largely due to Avramar's management opting to shut down several units as part of cost-cutting measures.
