Sichuan, China aims to produce 60 million swine next year
China's state media Xinhua said the country's biggest swine production province promised to resume production levels to previous years, reported Reuters.
Sichuan reported a 18% drop in swine production in the first three quarters of 2019, with official data at 35.82 million swine produced. Last year, Sichuan produced 66.38 million swine, the highest in the country.
Xinhua said Sichuan will allocate swine production targets to districts and counties in the form of a "letter of responsibility". Local authorities will provide 300 RMB (~US$42.89; 1 RMB = US$0.14) subsidy for each additional sow to reach the production target.
In addition, companies that have decided to restart swine production in deserted farms or construct new farms will be provided subsidies.
China has implemented a number of measures aimed at restoring the country's swine production and has tasked local authorities to boost production in their regions.
According to Xinhua, 435 new swine farms have been opened in Sichuan since August 2019, which are estimated to produce nine million swine.
