Thai Egg Exports Surge 450%

Thailand's eggs exports are expected to surge by 450% to 280 million eggs, or 640 containers in 2003, a local trade association said.

Of the total export market, Hong Kong accounts for 50% followed by Indonesia (30%), South Africa (12%) and the Middle East (8%).

Wichai Taechavattananan, president of the Association of Hen-Egg Farmers, Traders and Exporters, said the export surge came after the association encouraged farmers not only to improve the quality of their eggs but also their packaging to protect them from damage during delivery.
