Colombia to host 2025 Responsible Seafood Summit
The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) has announced that the 24th edition of the Responsible Seafood Summit will take place in Cartagena, Colombia, during the week of September 29, 2025.
The event will be hosted at the InterContinental Cartagena, offering a platform for global industry stakeholders to address key issues, exchange ideas, and foster connections within the seafood sector.
The announcement was made on the second day of this year's Responsible Seafood Summit in St Andrews, Scotland. Cartagena, a vibrant city on the Caribbean coast and a UNESCO World Heritage site, will serve as a distinctive backdrop for the Summit. Mike Kocsis, CEO of GSA, expressed enthusiasm about bringing the event back to South America for the first time since 2018, when it was held in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
"With Colombia's growing prominence in the global seafood industry, it is encouraging to see a strong commitment to responsible production and sourcing in both aquaculture and wild-capture fisheries," said Kocsis. "We look forward to collaborating with our global network in Cartagena."
Cartagena, known for its 16th-century defensive walls and cultural significance, was recently recognised by Travel + Leisure magazine as one of the "best places to travel" in 2024. The Responsible Seafood Summit, which has been held annually for 23 years, continues to provide a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration among the seafood industry's leading voices.
Carlos Salinas, Americas Regional Director for the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), highlighted the significance of the event. "Cartagena is the perfect setting for the Summit, and USSEC is proud to sponsor this prestigious event. As a trusted partner to the aquaculture industry, U.S. soy supports growth and sustainability, helping the sector thrive. We look forward to engaging with global leaders to advance innovation and sustainable practices in aquaculture," he said.
Adolfo Alvial, executive director of the Chilean Aquaculture Innovation Club and Chairman of the Board of the Aquaculture Innovation Alliance, noted the opportunity to showcase advancements in Latin American aquaculture. "This is an excellent opportunity to highlight LATAM aquaculture's progress in technology, productivity, and sustainability," he remarked.
The Summit aims to continue its legacy as a pre-competitive platform for addressing challenges and fostering innovation within the global seafood industry.
