Warm weather aids condition of Ukraine's winter crops
The favourable warm weather in Ukraine had helped the conditions of the winter crops positively, according to the Head Agrometeorological Centre, Tetiana Adamenko.
"Weather conditions, formed in December, are favourable for winter crops. If at the end of November we spoke that the situation is so difficult that the warm weather will hardly change anything, currently, according to our data, in some regions sprouts of winter crops appeared where they have been absent earlier," she said.
At the same time, as Adamenko noted, despite the warm weather, winter crops went into the phase of sprouts too late and it is rather difficult to forecast their further development. "Development of those winter crops is so non-standard that it will really be a kind of an experiment for Ukraine," she noted.
According to her, currently, winter crop sprouts failed to appear on 30% of areas under crops and on 40% - they are thinned. "We can say now that it will be necessary to repeatedly sow 35-40% of areas.
At the same time, it is worth expecting deficit of winter wheat and barley," Tetiana Adamenko added.
