Cambodia receives donation of 1 million doses of livestock vaccines from China

China has donated 1 million doses of livestock vaccines to Cambodia to improve the agricultural cooperation between both countries, as the spread of livestock diseases in Cambodia affect its supply of animal products and national economy, The Phnom Penh Post reported.
Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries hosted a ceremony to officially hand over the one million doses of livestock vaccines, 500,000 for lumpy skin disease (LSD) and 500,000 for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).
Dith Tina, Cambodia's Agriculture Minister, said the 1 million doses of livestock vaccines will supplement Cambodia's current stocks and help control disease.
He said the livestock industry contributes significantly to raising incomes, enhancing quality of life, and strengthening the national economy. Production is heavily influenced by factors related to breed, feed, health management, and market promotion.
He also said infectious diseases were a significant barrier to the supply and production of meat and other animal products for the market, which had a negative impact on the country's economy. This includes outbreaks of FMD, haemorrhagic septicemia, classical swine fever, avian influenza, African swine fever, and most recently LSD.
The minister said that China has assisted the Kingdom's livestock industry through a number of initiatives and partnerships, including the donation of livestock vaccines, biodigester programmes, and training initiatives.
Wang Wentian, the Chinese ambassador to Cambodia, said that his government's regular collaboration with Cambodia's primary agricultural sectors, including crops, animal husbandry, fishing, and rubber, had been fully implemented and demonstrated to be successful.
He added that the vaccines would be beneficial for raising animals in Cambodia and that the Chinese government had additional projects to support the growth of the country's agriculture.
