Thailand's egg farmers shift focus to Malaysian market

Thailand's association of egg farmers have shifted their focus towards the Malaysian market, following news of an egg shortage there and the Malaysian government looking to import eggs to meet rising demand, The Star reported.
Malaysia is currently importing eggs from India.
The association also said that it anticipates the price of eggs to stay high for at least one month and the price of animal feed to remain high through the middle of next year.
The association is worried about the declining price of poultry meat because it is also lowering the price of meat from retired laying hens.
On December 27, the price of chicken meat from poultry farms was THB 41 (~US$1.18; THB 1 = US$0.029) per kg, compared to THB 32 (~US$0.92) for chicken meat from decommissioned hens.
The cost of large hen eggs was revealed to be THB 4.15 (~US$0.12) per egg by Thailand's Livestock Development Department.
