Vietnam reports 4.17% growth for 2021 aquaculture output

Vietnam's aquaculture output is estimated at 4.75 million tonnes this year, an increase by some 4.17 percent from 2020, according to the Directorate of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Of this output, the output of tra fish stood at 1.5 million tonnes, equivalent to last year's figure.

The directorate predicted that the COVID-19 pandemic may continue to create uncertainties in 2022, directly affecting logistics, production and business activities in the fisheries sector. Processing firms may face raw material shortages in the first quarter of next year.

MARD will order localities to continue with farming to ensure sufficient supply of raw materials for processing in 2022, the directorate added.

This year, aquatic product exports are estimated at a value of US$8.89 billion, posting a year-on-year increase of 5.7%, data from the Directorate of Fisheries showed.
