Agreement signed to support responsible use of antimicrobials in Chilean livestock production

Chile's Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) has signed a collaboration agreement with representatives of the Meat Exporters Association (Asociación de Exportadores de Carnes), ChileCarne, and the Meat Corporation(Corporación de la Carne), with the goal of promoting joint work in the area of prudent and responsible use of antimicrobials in the country's livestock production.

The agreement will allow the sector to be a collaborating agent in the control of the use of such medicines, which has direct benefits for commercialisation, since the European market will soon demand that third countries regulate antimicrobials in a way that mirrors their own.

National associations in Chile will begin to adapt to the upcoming requirements of the most demanding destination markets without losing their bargaining power.
