Vietnam confirms H5N6 bird flu in Quang Ninh province

Vietnam has confirmed an outbreak of H5N6 bird flu was confirmed in Quang Ninh province, north of the country with 1,000 poultry culled, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

According to the Quang Ninh provincial Department of Livestock and Animal Health, this was the fourth flu outbreak reported in Quang Ninh this year.

The cause of the latest outbreak were local breeders that failed to control the transmission risks and did not register their new stocks.

Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said bird flu has been reported in 84 communes of 28 provinces and cities, while African swine fever has affected 1,500 communes of 50 provinces and cities.

The ministry has called on relevant authorities to deploy resources and implement drastic measures to control animal diseases to safeguard the nation's food supply ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations.
