Hong Kong bans all imports of German poultry and poultry products

Hong Kong's city government has announced on Saturday (Dec 22) that it has suspended import of poultry products from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

According to the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of Hong Kong, the Centre has suspended processing applications for import of all poultry and poultry products, including poultry eggs, from the Province of Schleswig-Holstein with immediate effect until further notice.

A CFS spokesman said, "The decision was made after receiving notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health about an outbreak of low pathogenic avian influenza H5 in a farm detected in Schleswig-Holstein."

"We are seeking further information from the relevant German authority and will closely monitor the situation," he added.
