Vietnam sees big meat supply for Lunar New Year
Vietnam is going to have a big supply of meat for the coming Lunar New Year due to proper control of diseases in livestock, according to an official from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The country is controlling the bird flu and Ha Tinh is the only province which reported blue-ear disease so far, said Hoang Van Nam, head of the MARD's Department of Animal Health.
The foot-and-mouth disease is in its decreasing trend as it is reported only in 13 provinces, Hoang said.
Hoang noted that as the localities successfully prevent animal herds from diseases, the country will have a big supply of meat for the Lunar New Year festival beginning on next February 2.
However, Nam urged the localities to monitor their animals closely and use proper measures when detecting diseases in order to prevent disease outbreak.
