Vietnam's farmed shrimp output up by one million tonnes each year, industry official says

Vietnam's farmed shrimp output increases one million tonnes every year but the export turn-over value has only ranged from US$3.5 billion to US$4 billion, said the vice chairman of the Vietnam Seafood Association, Duong Long Tri.

He made the revelation during a conference hosted by Vietnam's Directorate of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on December 21.

Tri added that the previous output only reached 700,000 tonnes, achieving the same value as the current period. Hence, there is a need to review processing solutions to increase the value of core products, thereby lifting export turnover.

This year, Vietnam's seafood sector had achieved a total exploitation and farming output of 9.2 million tonnes, an increase of 2% over 2022.

For next year, the sector aims to achieve a total seafood output of 9.22 million tonnes and an export turn-over of around US$9.5 billion.
