Taiwan bans pork-related product imports from Vietnam

The move follows discovery of African swine fever in Vietnam pork liver paste sold in Taiwan, which has now been pulled off the shelves, reported Taiwan News.

Chen Chi-chung, Council of Agriculture (COA) Minister said the discovery on December 9, 2019 was made as part of a routine spot check on canned and processed food made in risk areas.

Taiwan has imposed restrictions on pork-related product imports from Vietnam, with border checks finding 48 ASF-contaminated samples between October 1 to December 24, 2019. A further 164 contaminated samples came from China.

A Statute for Prevention and Control of Infectious Animal Disease amendment on December 13, 2019 stated a 30,000 TWD (~US$996.79; 10 TWD = US$0.33) and 150,000 TWD (~US$4,983) fine will be imposed on e-commerce businesses selling meat products which violate animal quarantine measures.
