Palawan, Philippines approves resolution for dairy development collaboration

The Provincial Board of Palawan, the Philippines, has given the green light to Resolution No. 1530-23, endorsing collaboration with the National Dairy Authority (NDA) to bolster dairy production in the province through a comprehensive Dairy Development Plan, Palawan News reported.
The resolution, championed by board member Ariston Arzaga, underscores the potential transformative impact of the proposed Dairy Development Programme on local livelihoods. Arzaga said the programme is crucial in addressing malnutrition concerns that persist in the province.
Palawan currently faces challenges in the dairy industry, primarily focusing on ready-to-drink milk (RTDs) with limited markets for other dairy products like cheese and butter. Arzaga highlighted the sparse presence of Palawan in the dairy sector and stressed that this hinders local milk production.
Despite Palawan's nutrient-rich and expansive land, dairy farming remains underexplored. Arzaga expressed optimism about the suitability of the province's vast and fertile land for dairy farming, stating that it could be conducive to Palawan.
The push for a Dairy Development Programme aligns with the provincial government's flagship initiative under the Socrates Administration.
