Brunei looks to export its aquaculture produce to China
The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) aims to export Brunei's aquaculture produce to China after meeting officials with regard to requirements for export approval, reported Biz Brunei.
This followed a meeting between MPRT Minister Hj Ali Apong and Deputy Minister of China's General Administration of Customs Dr. Zhang Jiwen in Beijing.
According to a press statement by MPRT, Brunei's aquaculture exports will increase to 20,000 tonnes from 16,000 tonnes annually with meat products to rise above the current 1,300 tonnes exported every year.
Brunei's MPRT minister also met China's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Yu Xinrong to discuss agriculture technologies in the rice and crop industry.
Brunei's aquaculture sector's biggest investor is China's Pure Fresh, which has invested US$400 million over five years for the development of a complete aquaculture supply chain made for export. The main product focus will be blue shrimp.
