Irish livestock slaughterings continue to increase

 

 

Cattle, pig and sheep slaughterings in Ireland all increased in November, according to the Irish Central Statistics Office.

 

The CSO said the number of cattle slaughtered in November increased 9.1% to 181,200 from 166,000 recorded in November 2016.

 

Pig slaughterings increased 4.8% from 299,200 head in November 2016 to 313,500 in November 2017. 

 

Sheep slaughtered in November increased 8.1% to 306,500 head from 283,500 November 2016.   

 

For the 11-month period January-November, cattle slaughterings were up 6.5% at 1,707,900 head compared with 1,603,000 during the same period in 2016.

 

Pig slaughterings in the same period from January to November rose 1.5% to 3,097,000 head from 3,050,900 in January-November last year. 

 

Sheep slaughterings stepped up by 10.4% to 2,914,100 head from 2,640,300 in January-November 2016.
