Australia hesitant on COOL labelling on pork

The Australian Meat Industry Council said country-of-origin labelling (COOL) on imported pork would be extremely difficult and expensive.

Kevin Cotrill, chief executive of AMIC, expressed that the labels would appear on the "made from local and imported product" segment.

The council pointed that the cost involved in COOL is the main reason why it hesitates on the labelling.

Submissions on the AMIC's position are being requested by Food Standards Australia New Zealand by February 2008.
