USDA FSIS announces recall of 16,000 plastic-contaminated frozen beef patties
The United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said about 15,739 frozen beef patties from Cincinnati-based AdvancePierre Foods may be contaminated with small, green, soft plastic, reported CNN.
AdvancePierre Foods is owned by Tyson Foods. The beef product was "CN fully cooked flamebroiled beef patties" with product code 69097, now categorised by FSIS as posing a low health risk.
The frozen beef was not for commercial sale, but distributed from an Iowa warehouse to institutions, including schools.
The FSIS has urged institutions that have purchased this product to return or dispose the item.
A recall was issued by FSIS after a complaint was made to AdvancePierre Foods by a food-service establishment regarding soft, green plastic found in its beef patty.
AdvancePierre Foods recalled 20,000 pounds of beef patties in April this year after reports of soft, purple plastic found in its patties.
