Morocco approves close to 200 aquaculture projects this year

Morocco's National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture (ANDA) approved 184 aquaculture projects in 2025, totalling DH76 billion (US$192 million), Morocco's Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Now built and operational, the projects have already created 2,361 direct jobs and are expected to have a combined production of 75,507 tonnes of seafood.
The agency said that an additional 62 aquaculture projects are currently under development. Once operational, these projects are expected to cost DH307 million (US$33.5 million) and add 14,590 tonnes in production capacity and generate around 520 direct jobs.
These indicators reflect the steady consolidation and growing maturity of Morocco's aquaculture ecosystem.
During its 26th board of directors meeting, ANDA presented its 2026 action plan, which includes around 35 projects and furthers Morocco's 2025–2027 strategic roadmap for the fisheries area. The plan seeks to ensure coherence between national policy orientations and programmes implemented by the agency.
The action plan focuses on expanding aquaculture planning through calls for expressions of interest to open new investment zones, thereby strengthening capacity building and professional development, modernising farming systems, improving technical and managerial skills, and enhancing product quality, traceability, and competitiveness.
The agency also reviewed measures to accelerate the structuring of aquaculture interprofessional bodies and support their official recognition.
As part of efforts to modernise investor services, ANDA plans to develop an integrated digital platform to fully digitise the aquaculture investment process, simplifying procedures, reducing processing times, and improving transparency.
The directors unanimously approved the 2026 action plan and provisional budget, reaffirming the agency's commitment to the sustainable and structured development of Morocco's aquaculture area.
