Aquaculture feed mill project in Iloilo, Philippines set to enhance local fish farming
The construction of a PHP 26.7 million (US$481,000) aquaculture feed mill in Tigbauan, Iloilo, the Philippines is underway, aimed at providing high-quality feeds at a stable price by utilising locally sourced raw materials, Panay Times reported.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources is spearheading the project, securing funds from its budget allocation, and receiving support from the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Centre (SEAFDEC) Aquaculture Department.
SEAFDEC chief, Dan Baliao, highlighted the significance of the facility, anticipating a daily production of five metric tonnes of feeds. The establishment of this aquaculture feed mill is expected to play a pivotal role in boosting and sustaining aquaculture production in the Visayas region.
Baliao said the establishment of an aquaculture feed mill plant in Visayas will help boost the production of farmers using formulated, cost-effective, and nutritionally balanced feeds.
The project aims to enhance the efficiency and economic viability of local fish farming, contributing to the overall growth of the aquaculture sector in the area.
