China Native Broiler: Festive demand perks up prices (week ended Dec 18, 2020)
Up for the third week, fast-growth native broiler prices strengthened amid robust demand as Chinese prepared for the celebration of Winter Solstice Festival.
Compared with October's lows, fast-growth broiler prices have surged 22%.
However, chick sales were flat as farmers, who were cautious of the market, limited stocks. Fast-growth chick prices softened to the low range of RMB0.50-0.60/chick.
Strengthening hog prices, in conjunction with tight availability, will help to underpin the prices of native broilers. Chick prices will stay weak, however, as farmers are not enthusiastic to expand flocks.
