Finland's pork imports rise 23% in January-October 2010
Finland imported a total of 24 million kilos of pork in January to October 2010, up 23% against the same period in 2009, stated Gallup Food and Farm Facts.
The increase in imports is mainly due to the food industry strike in Finland in the spring of 2010. In January-October 2010, imports accounted for about 16% of total consumption. In August-October 2010, imports decreased by 21% in from the corresponding period in 2009.
In January-October 2010, Finns consumed 149 million kilos of pork. The amount remained unchanged from the corresponding period in 2009. Production fell by 3% to about 166 million kilos.
