China's soy imports down year-on-year

In November, China imported 2.89 million tonnes of soy, down 13% year-on-year.

According to the General Administration of Customs, the soy imports in the January to November period totalled 37.77 million tonnes, up 10.6%  from the same period last year.

The imports started to recover in November after a three-month decline, rising 14.68%from October.

The China National Grain and Oils Information Centre earlier forecasted that soy imports in the November to December period would reach 7.6 million tonnes, adding that imports in December may hit record high of 4.8 million tonnes due to delays of some shipments into the month.

China is the largest soy importer in the world. It meets 70%of its soy demand by importing from other countries such as the US, Brazil and Argentina.
