Argentina's seafood exports post decline

 

 

During January to November, Argentina exported 415,889 tonnes of fish and shellfish at a value of US$1.028 billion.

 

The figures provided by the National Food Safety and Quality Service (SENASA) represent a fall of 14.2% in volume and 5.6% in value when compared with the same period of 2008, when 484,781 tonnes of seafood worth US$1.088 million were exported.

 

Senasa certified nearly 305,588 tonnes of fish exports worth an estimated US$610.7 million, and 110,301 tonnes of shellfish exports at a value of US$417 million during the 11-month period.

 

Spain was the main market for Argentine seafood exports, buying 88,830 tonnes worth US$322.8 million during the period.

 

Brazil was the second largest market with 56,048 tonnes worth US$130 million, followed by Italy with 27,018 tonnes valued at US$101.8 million; and the US with 19,018 tonnes worth US$56.1 million.
