Gigante Salmon reaches key milestone as nursery pool filled at RAS facility

Norwegian land-based fish farmer Gigante Salmon has achieved a significant milestone in the construction of its cutting-edge recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility, as it has successfully filled the nursery pool with sea water, marking a crucial step toward initiating the first production cycle, Fish Farmer reported.

The company us situated on the island of Lille Indre Rosøya in Rødøy.

As part of the ongoing preparations, functional testing of the production equipment is in progress, with plans to release smolt as soon as the test period concludes. Gigante's CEO, Helge E W Albertsen, said the initial test run is positive, everything is working as planned, and they have not encountered any unforeseen challenges.

The land-based salmon farming facility, located in the island of Lille Indre Rosøya in Rødøy and currently in the construction phase, is set to commence the production process in production unit no.3.

The two remaining production units are scheduled for completion in 2024, with the entire plant expected to be finalised in the second half of the same year.

In a stock exchange announcement in September, Gigante Salmon revealed that the project would incur approximately NOK 200 million (US$19.3 million) more than initially anticipated. The increase was attributed to higher energy and construction costs.
