Ukraine hopes to export corn to US

Ukraine is looking to export corn to the US, which was severely affected by a drought in 2012, according to Ukraine's Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.

The eastern European nation increased corn plantings for the 2012 harvest by 26% to 4.4 million hectares, government data show. Ukraine will ship abroad about 12 million tonnes of corn in the year ending August 31, Prysyazhnyuk said last month. The worst drought in the US, since 1956, reduced this year's harvest, sending corn and soy prices to records.
