Bangladesh to Continue Limit on Eggs, Chicks Open Import

 

The existing restriction on open import of chicks of poultry birds, eggs and edible salt in Bangladesh will continue until 2009 under the rules of balance of payments of World Trade Organization (WTO).

 

A meeting of the WTO consultative committee held in the city on Monday however decided to give permission to import chicks of poultry birds with the balance of payment.

 

The meeting decided to allow the import of poultry chicks free from contagious diseases in the interest of development of poultry sector of the country.

 

Restriction on import of eggs and edible salt will continue to protect the interest of the local producers.
