Data from China's National Bureau of Statistics showed the country's biggest soybean producing province, Heilongjiang, has set new records in 2022 for soybean output and planting area, Xinhua News reported.

The province yielded 9.54 billion kg of soybeans this year, 32.6% higher year-on-year. This accounts for 47% of China's total soybean production.

The sown soybean area in Heilongjiang reached hit 73.98 million mu (4.93 million hectares), up 26.9% year-on-year.

Liu Mingkun, the director of the Yongsheng Agricultural Machinery Cooperative in Heilongjiang's Jixian County, said their cooperative planted more than 20,000 mu of soybeans this year, with an average yield per mu exceeding 200 kg, breaking the record.

Heilongjiang has been increasing its soybean yield through a number of strategies, including improving variety selection and field management methods, to ensure China's national food security.
