Ukraine may increase corn acreage by 5-7% in 2013
Ukraine is likely to increase the planted areas under corn by 5-7% in 2013 compared with the current year.
Nikolai Prysyazhnyuk, Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, noted the need to stimulate growth of spring barley in the country. The Ministry hopes that the areas under the grain will remain at the same level as last year, as Ukraine started showing the tendency to reduce them.
As a reminder, in the current year Ukrainian agrarians planted corn throughout 4.6 million hectares of corn, winter barley for the harvest-2013 - 1.1 million hectares.
