Ukraine's winter crop area down to 9.25 million hectares

Ukrainian agricultural enterprises of all categories sowed winter crops throughout 9.258 million hectares for the 2011 harvest, down 8.1% compared with last year's results.

In particular, Ukraine sowed winter grains throughout the areas of 8.088 million hectares, a decrease of 5.5% compared to the previous year. Winter wheat sowing areas totaled 6.55 million hectares, rye – 287,800 hectares, barley – 1.246 million hectares.

Besides, winter rapeseed sowing areas occupied 1.082 million hectares, down 23.7% compared to indices of the last year, declared the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine on December 15.
