Brazilian chicken exports to Middle East up January to November


Brazilian chicken export volume to the Middle East totalled 770,000 tonnes from January to November, up 14 percent compared with the same period in 2004, the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef) said.


For the same period, chicken export revenues reached US$847.9 million, up 41 percent year-on-year.


Major importers from the region were Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, with purchases of 342,900 tonnes, 129,300 tonnes and 119,700 tonnes respectively.


In November alone, Brazilian chicken exports totalled 206,580 tonnes worth US$288 million, up 2 percent and 41 percent respectively compared with November 2004.


Total Brazilian chicken exports from January to November reached a record high of 2.6 million tonnes worth US$3.15 billion, up 16.25 percent and 34 percent respectively compared with the same period in 2004.


Meanwhile, chicken exports to Asia from January to November totalled 678,780 tonnes worth US$886.4 million, up 19 percent and 30.5 percent respectively on-year.


Abef plans to expand into new markets worldwide and continue investing in currently established ones.
