Cheap Brazilian Beef Welcomed in Singapore

Singapore's beef imports rose 4%, to 13,742 tons, compared to the same period in 2002.

Competition from cheap Brazilian beef has been strong in many markets throughout the year, and Singapore has been no exception.  Brazil's share rose from 61.6% in 2002 to 63.3% in 2003. 

Since 1998, Brazil's share of beef market has been growing steadily and is largely attributed to the competitively priced frozen beef available to importers.
