South Korea confirms 11th ASF case this year

South Korea has confirmed its 11th case of African swine fever (ASF) this year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced.

The latest case was detected at a swine farm in Yangju, located 25 km southwest of Seoul in Gyeonggi Province. Authorities reported that more than 5,500 swine at the farm will be culled to prevent the disease from spreading.

The previous ASF case was reported in early November at another local swine farm.

In response to the new outbreak, authorities are conducting emergency quarantine measures and a thorough investigation of the affected farm. Disinfection operations will also be carried out at pig farms in Yangju and in nearby cities and counties to contain the spread of the virus.
