Oman Flour Mills unveils state-of-the-art animal feed plant

Oman Flour Mills Company (OFM) launched a new animal feed production plant, boasting a production capacity of 20 tonnes of animal feed per hour and a pre-mixing unit capable of producing six metric tonnes of pre-mix per hour, Muscat Daily reported.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Oman's Minister of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources, underscored OFM's commitment to Oman Vision 2040.

Positioned strategically in Muscat's Mutrah area, the plant aligns with circular economy principles, prioritising the use of local raw materials, economic sustainability, and environmentally friendly practices.

The primary objective of the plant is to diversify the production of animal feed products, contributing not only to the food security system but also adding substantial local value to cater to Oman's food manufacturing needs, according to an official from the company.

Dignitaries from the Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries Resources, representatives from various ministries, government entities, private sector companies specialising in food and animal feed production, along with OFM officials attended the inauguration. Haitham bin Mohammed al Fanah, CEO of the Oman Flour Mills Company, said the plant's significance in reinforcing the food security system and integrating production chains.

The Animal Feed Production Plant also incorporates innovative technology, including robotic systems for packaging operations, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and a safe working environment.

Al Fanah highlighted the plant's potential to contribute significantly to Oman's mission to meet the needs for manufacturing animal feed, leveraging technological advancements and proximity to wheat mills. The advanced pre-mixing unit enhances production processes with cutting-edge systems for production control and organisation.

The high level of automation enables precise control over ingredients, mixing, and production processes, ensuring the production of high-quality feed with strong competitive capabilities. The plant's automatic control systems for calibration and standardization allow quick adjustments and effective decisions to maintain product quality.

This establishment is anticipated to support livestock development, foster self-sufficiency in feed, and accelerate efforts to localize manufacturing, reducing dependence on imports and meeting the increasing demand for animal feed products in local and regional markets.
