China Whey: Traders stand firm despite cautious buying (week ended Dec 14, 2020)
 
 
Whey availability remained tight due to stringent import inspections and delayed shipments. Additionally, freight charges increased while the prices of whey strengthened lately in the US.. Traders stood firm as a result even though feed producers were cautious with purchases.
 
Price quotes of low-protein whey products stayed firm the range of RMB8,300-9,000/tonne. Prices of high-protein whey products remained at RMB7,600-8,100/tonne.
 
Price quotes of US feed-grade whey were in the range of US$704-772/tonne.
 
Feed producers will hold back purchases with soymeal prices declining. However, traders are unlikely to negotiate whey prices amid tight supplies and high import costs.
