Additional 40,000 tonnes of frozen pork from China's state reserves to be sold

China will sell an additional 40,000 tonnes of frozen pork kept in state reserves on December 19, 2019 to add more supplies for the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations, reported Reuters.

The China Merchandise Reserve Management Centre announced the measure on its website, which follows a previous December 12, 2019 sale of 40,000 tonnes of frozen pork from state reserves previously.

China is currently managing an African swine fever outbreak, which has decimated swine herds in the country.

The country has approved additional overseas meat importers to supplement stocks but is anticipating increased demand over the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations.
