Industry players await on China's canola market

The canola industry is still waiting for China to open to Canadian grains, but some players remain positive.

The crush margins are very good in China and industry experts are optimistic that China will allow Canadian supplies in the long run. China's restrictions on imports of seed testing positive for blackleg have stopped trade.

There is no open acceptance of Canadian canola yet, but Chinese crushers have contracts for 200,000 to 250,000 tonnes more canola than been shipped by November 15, and Chinese regulators may find a way to allow those shipments to proceed.

JoAnne Buth, president of Canola Council of Canada, said hopeful Chinese importers are still waiting to receive approval to bring in Canadian canola seed to ports in non-rapeseed growing areas.
