Iran aims to expand seafood production and consumption
Iran's Fisheries Organization (IFO) aims to expand its production of fish and other seafood during the nation's 20-Year Outlook Plan.
Iran's Fisheries Organization's seafood production in the past year increased seven percent, noted head of the organization, Sha'banali Nezami.
Iran's per capita seafood consumption is estimated at around five kilogrammes he pointed out, lower than that of other countries. The country aims to increase the figure to seven kilogrammes by the yearend, he announced, and to 10 kilogrammes by the of Iran's Fourth Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2004-2009).
Per capita seafood consumption in the world currently stands at about 16 kilogrammes, the figure is around 26 kilogrammes in the developed countries and about 70 kilogrammes in Japan.
