Philippines Abort Plan to Import 1000 MT Dressed Chicken
The Philippines has decided to cancel its plan to import 1000 metric tons of dressed chicken.
The chicken was originally ordered to prevent further price hikes and ensure sufficient local supply during the Christmas season.
However, the Trade Secretary of Philippines felt that this move was no longer necessary as three major local food producers have indicated that they will supply the market with 1.3 million chickens during the festive period and price increase in chickens have slowed in recent weeks.
"Since the 1000 tons dressed chicken will only arrive in January 2004, if we proceed with the plan to import the chicken meat, by the time when the supply arrive, the market demand for the products is already reduced", the Trade Secretary said.
