China State Shipbuilding Corporation delivers enclosed salmon farming ship

China State Shipbuilding Corporation Guangxi Shipbuilding on Decmeber 12 delivered the self-propelled enclosed salmon farming vessel, Su Gan Yu Yang 00001, a multipurpose vessel designed for deep-sea aquaculture, fishing, and onboard processing.

This project marks the company's breakthrough in the field of high-end aquaculture vessel retrofitting.

Su Gan Yu Yang 00001 is a mobile offshore aquaculture facility. The vessel measures 249.8 meters in length overall, 45 meters in beam, and 21.6 meters in depth with a displacement of 132,000 tonnes. It features approximately 83,000 cubic meters of aquaculture water volume and a highly intelligent farming system.

The retrofit encompasses six major systems: fingerling intake, live fish discharge, aquaculture tank overflow, aeration, fish suction pumps, and processing. It involves 15 large aquaculture tanks, featuring high technological integration and complex construction interfaces. This marks the company's first high-tech upgrade project for an aquaculture workboat. Facing this entirely new type of retrofit project, Guangxi Shipbuilding started from scratch, assembling a dedicated technical team to systematically study the process flow and ensure its successful completion.

As its first undertaking of a highly comprehensive aquaculture vessel renovation project, Guangxi Shipbuilding overcame numerous difficulties, including a lack of experience, a tight schedule, and complex system integration.

By optimising construction techniques, the company successfully completed several key tasks, including the high-quality installation of over 360 sets of equipment, the installation of over 600 pipelines, the laying of 21,000 meters of cables, the construction of over 300 structural outfitting components, the renovation of over 5,400 square meters of interior space and the renovation of key systems such as the oxygenation system, salmon processing system and the demolition of the quick-freezing tunnel. This significantly shortened the construction period, delivering the vessel 79 days ahead of schedule and setting a new record for the company's ship repair and renovation efficiency.

The successful conversion and delivery of the Su Gan Yu Yang 00001 marks a major breakthrough for Guangxi Shipbuilding in a new business domain.

Moving forward, the company will continue to build specialised technical capabilities and accelerate the development and retrofitting of smart deep-sea fishing equipment, contributing greater maritime strength to China's blue economy.
