Myanmar in discussions to resume live cattle exports to China
U Tun Lwin, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, said Myanmar is in discussions with China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) to resume live cattle exports to China, Myanmar Times reported.
For live cattle to be exported to China, health certificates need to be issued by China's Department of Animal Husbandry under the purview of the GACC.
U Min Aung Aye, director at 105th Mile Border Trade Post in Muse township, from the Ministry of Commerce responsible for issuing export licenses, said live cattle should be permitted for export to China from January 2021. The Muse township borders Yunnan, China.
There are currently 15,000 live cattle and goats set to be exported to China, held up at the border.
Live cattle exports were allowed by Myanmar from December 2017. Aside from China, live cattle from Myanmar have been exported to Bangladesh, India, and Thailand.
