Zambeef positioned to feed Africa, says Kenyan official

Zambeef Products has the potential to be a Pan-African brand, capable of feeding the entire African continent, said Adan Mohamed, Kenya's cabinet secretary of the Ministry of Industrialisation and Enterprise Development.

Mohamed, along with the country's high commissioner to Zambia, Sophy Kombe, had inspected the company's corn field in Lusaka, Zambia.

"This is an incredible operation. Zambeef is a business that is African and Zambian, with an international presence being listed on the London Stock Exchange," Mohamed added. "Africa continues to remain the future food hub of the world and Zambeef is well positioned to not only feed the nation but the entire continent."

The official, who was in Zambia to attend the COMESA policy meetings in Lusaka, had toured Zambeef's Huntley farm in Chisamba.

"Zambeef has been a proudly Zambian company working with local farmers to bring value-added local produce to our customers. Over many years of operations, we have come to learn and understand that there are no shortcuts in farming," said Felix Lupindula, Zambeef's head of public relations and corporate affairs. "It takes both dedication and perseverance. We have invested heavily and we will continue to do so. We intend on growing this company not just locally, but beyond the borders of Zambia."

Zambeef has approximately 8,150 hectares of row crops planted twice a year under irrigation and an additional 8,480 hectares of rain-fed / dry-land crops available yearly.

The company slaughters around 55,000 beef cattle, 50,000 pigs and six million chickens, as well as processing 10 million litres of milk each year from its primary production division.
