Russia's grain production reaches 92 million tonnes
Russian grain production in 2011 totalled 92 million tonnes in clean weight against 60.9 million tonnes last year, said Pavel Skurikhin, President of the National union of grain producers of Russia, on December 13.
The bunker weight totalled 98 million tonnes of grains.
According to Skurikhin, the country received rather good harvest, and it shows the need to work on expanding the infrastructure of the grain market, primarily to improve elevator management and transport logistics.
Skurikhin also reported that winter wheat sowing areas for the harvest-2012 total 16.5 million ha. In most regions, the sowing works were quite favourable, and significant losses of winter crops are not currently projected.
According to forecasts of the Union, the general sowing areas of agricultural crops in the present agricultural year (July 2011-June 2012) will total 78 million ha against 76.4 million ha last agricultural year. The growth will occur mainly at the expense of increasing of the areas under winter wheat, while spring wheat areas will reduce. Grain sowing areas will total 46.2 million ha.
