Marginal Fall in Japan Pork Imports

In January-October, Japan's pork imports were marginally lower than corresponding year-earlier levels, at just over 647,000 tons.

Exports from the United States, the largest exporter to Japan, increased by more than 1% on year-earlier levels, to almost 216,000 tons. However, the increased exports from the US was insufficient to offset lower volumes from other countries.

In particular, exports from Denmark decreased by more than seven per cent during the January-October period, to less than 185,000 tons.

Similarly, exports from Canada fell by nearly 4% on corresponding 2002 levels, to 143,000 tons.
